There’s nothing wrong with taking it easy on a serene beach — but if you’re like many travelers, you want a little excitement on your vacation. On a Royal Caribbean ship, you can experience high-octane adventure at nearly every port in the world (but still hang out on the pool deck in-between escapades). Here are a few recommended favorites.

Wave Jet TourHit the Waves
What: Carve up the crystal-clear waters surrounding Royal Caribbean’s gorgeous private island in The Bahamas on a Sea-Doo personal watercraft.
Cool factor: You’ll jet past the Great Stirrup Cay Lighthouse, Slaughter Harbor, Starfish Alley and Cistern Cay and see the island in a more modern way than the pirate Blackbeard did.

What: Feel like a superhero as you blast out of the water and into the air in a Jetlev, a water-propelled jetpack powered by a 225-horsepower engine.
Cool factor: You’ll learn to flip, fly and even perform “dolphin jumps.”

Carabali ATV AdventureRugged Ride
What: Take an ATV off-road in Carabali Rainforest Park — climb hills, traverse forests and fields, and splash through rivers. A guide will lead you around the towering trees and tight corners of El Yunque National Forest.
Cool factor: When you’ve had enough fun on the ground, stop by the park’s hilltop Bamboo Lounge to admire the forest and ocean views from above.

What: Go “Tree Limin,” an extreme zipline through the canopy of St. Thomas that will excite first-timers and veterans alike. Local guides share info on the flora and fauna along the way.
Cool factor: The final section turns you into a human “yo-yo.”

What: Take an exhilarating helicopter ride to some of the most remote parts of the Juneau Icefield, 150 miles of glaciers, high alpine lakes and icefalls. You may even get to stand on Devil’s Paw (a.k.a. Boundary Peak 93) marking the boundary between the U.S. and Canada.
Cool factor: Your pilot will select two of the most ideal places to land based on weather and glacier conditions so you can experience the environment on foot.

What: Go whitewater rafting down New Zealand’s Class 3 Kaituna River for a look at the country’s native bushland and unspoiled scenery.

What: Experience “canyoning,” a mountainous watercourse of obstacles through Portugal’s mountains. You’ll rappel through waterfalls, slide down rock water toboggans and leap off cliffs (low ones) into natural pools.
Cool factor: Get up close with Madeira’s nature in a way few people have.

What: Explore the Tunnel Borbonico, a secret 19th-century passage, beneath the Royal Palace before emerging to examine the Carmignana aqueduct. You’ll even fly over the city’s 16th-century reservoir on an underground zipline.
Cool factor: Used as a bomb shelter during WWII, many vintage cars and motorbikes still remain in the tunnel.
